What...Probably nothing to worry about there Spikey. What I was trying to express there is absolutely specific to the issue of abortion, and is something I've said a number of times in various forums over the years, rather than anything on which my tendencies have changed. In the main article I didn't express it clearly enough to distinguish it from other issues where people are irrationally emotional and I enjoy rubbing their noses in it all the more for it. My response to John Wigg got into what I was getting at a little better there when I wrote:

"But my comment about emotion was more about the often irritating nature of the abortion debate. It's one in which it can be hard to engage without someone emoting in an urgent and grottily personal way that if you don't agree with them you're not just mistaken, but the kind of person who would strangle a one-year-old to make a snuff film for a dollar. "

And, while I dislike having to deal with those sorts of responses at all - in which people insist on taking an intellectual difference personally and sometimes do it in a manner I find really unfortunate and irritating - as you may have noticed, it doesn't stop me.

Kevin Bonhamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06845545257440242894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4052593945054595675.post-18310828412991816102013-04-27T19:15:24.227+10:002013-04-27T19:15:24.227+10:00"I generally dislike writing about abortion-r..."I generally dislike writing about abortion-related issues at all, because there are too many people who appear to believe that being emotional on behalf of "unborn babies" trumps not only every opposing philosophical argument, but also the most basic responsibility of understanding the existing legislative situation and understanding what changes are actually being proposed" Since when did you begin disliking discussing things people had illogical, ill-informed opinions on? Have you become more concerned with popularity than expressing your own considered opinions? I ask this in all sincerity as I would be VERY (sorry for shouting) disappointed to discover that this was the case.
