It was only 20 or so years ago that our love was illegal. People were condemned, jailed or worse for being true to themselves and who they are in their hearts.

Since then we've fought hard for equality and we get closer and closer with each step we take. The thing is? For every two steps forward we take, we're forced to take one and a half back.

Take politics in Australia? Defeating the LNP and their socially conservative rhetoric is one battle we can fight and win eventually, but then you look at the ALP and the power the SDA has over the caucus and their extremely conservative leader De Bruyn. How do we fight that? How do we fight for equality when the only real alternative in the House of Representatives contains an extremely powerful bigot who loves to play politics?

Then, over time you cant help but take things to heart when you see it and hear it so often. I live in South Australia and we have picketers in Rundle Mall (luckily they've not been around for a little while) who are just as extreme as the Westboro Baptist Church in America. Then you've got politicians who are meant to represent the people condemning the people they're meant to represent...

It gets to you.

So you take hold of the shining lights of goodness in the world. The people who are willing to stand up and try to make a difference in the lives of those people around them (even if they're not directly affected themselves). This is why I felt the need to share thanks with Kevin for his support, it likely means a whole lot more to a large group of people than you can realise.

(Hoping I only have to send this through once, instead of "Google Account" into "Unknown" and finally to my name, it's just come up with my name this time. Should be fine.)Kasey Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17183320601719206423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4052593945054595675.post-67795684621153120482015-07-29T23:30:21.389+10:002015-07-29T23:30:21.389+10:00I am sorry for the hurt you are going through and ...I am sorry for the hurt you are going through and urge you to focus on the goodwill of rest of us who do not subscribe to views from a man with a religious dogma-induced mental impairment. I've enjoyed reading your articles for the best part of two years now and your recent articles supporting the LGBTQ+ movement has really lifted my spirits.

My spirits which were being crushed by a backward and overly socially conservative government who would rather discriminate against myself and the community instead of taking the leap and supporting their citizens.

It literally hurts every time you hear a Cory Bernadi or an Eric Abetz crucify you for being who you are. That, if given the right to wed, we would be at fault for future polygamous relationships, or even bestial relationships. To be constantly treated as lesser people and having that reinforced by a Prime Minister who wont even support his own sister.

The fight for LGBTQ+ rights is a long and painful one which is only made worse by people who simply cannot empathise with others.

(I'll give up after this I think. The only reason I keep trying is because it changes who I'm logged in as when I hit publish. Again, please delete if the other time went through.)Kasey Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17183320601719206423noreply@blogger.com
