I remember seeing a couple of these clips referenced in the multi-episode show with Kerry Stokes interviewing Keating maybe 7 or 8 years back, reckon that's it?Blob Hawkehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13605187058834465883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4052593945054595675.post-81998464692977084152023-07-15T16:14:32.343+10:002023-07-15T16:14:32.343+10:00Downer's popularity collapsed with great speed...Downer's popularity collapsed with great speed in a six-week period in July-Sep 1994 in which his net satisfaction went from +29 to -7 then -3 then -31. <br /><br />Re the Keating quote, that was actually from 1995 and it was Keating trolling Downer when Downer interjected days after Downer had been rolled. I went through Hansard and found the source of all the quotes in the Youtube video of Keating vs Downer (one of them is actually Downer vs Tickner not Keating) https://twitter.com/kevinbonham/status/1161614340681678848Kevin Bonhamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06845545257440242894noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4052593945054595675.post-6022962315488795442023-07-15T16:00:51.530+10:002023-07-15T16:00:51.530+10:00Perhaps to do with ambivalence towards PK, but als...Perhaps to do with ambivalence towards PK, but also how rapidly Downer's Opposition descended from hope into absolute farce. Going off the numbers here, Downer went from having a dissatisfaction rating of only 12 in July 1994 to having one of the lowest satisfaction ratings ever recorded - 20 - by early December of the same year. I was barely in secondary school by 1994 and living abroad, so I can't say I remember the Downer years (though I do remember asking my dad who our PM was at the dinner table and being told "Paul Keating") but these numbers fit squarely with what I've read about his tenure as OL.<br /><br />""Downer Vows a Fresh Start" - How's it going for you there, Curly?" - PJK, 1994Blob Hawkehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13605187058834465883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4052593945054595675.post-19072653345124756202022-03-26T23:16:11.233+11:002022-03-26T23:16:11.233+11:00Indeed he did; added.
